Why I started FocusVault

FocusVault began with a simple observation: my phone had become the biggest obstacle to the two things it should never interfere with, my concentration and my safety behind the wheel. I kept seeing the same pattern in myself and the people around me: deep work interrupted by one more glance at a screen, and drivers reaching for their phones at 70 miles per hour for a song, a headline, or a text.

I built FocusVault to flip that relationship. Instead of your phone stealing your attention, it should protect it: at your desk with focused sessions and habit streaks, and on the road with audio that comes to you so your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes stay on the road.

Community safety is the key initiative

Safe driving is not a feature of FocusVault. It is the reason the drive side of the app exists. Driving has become one of the most constant parts of our daily lives, and it is imperative for everyone's safety, yours, your passengers', and everyone else's on the road, that we keep our focus on the road and drive safely.

That principle shapes every drive-time decision in the app:

• Hands-free by design. News, podcasts, stories, and books are chosen by voice and play on their own. The intended way to use FocusVault in a car is with the phone put away.
• A quiet screen while moving. When the car is moving, the app deliberately goes quiet and asks for nothing. Anything that needs your eyes or fingers waits until you are safely parked.
• Hands-free credit. Every drive builds a private, on-device record of hands-free driving, a small reward for doing the safe thing, and yours alone to keep.
• Honest limits. No app can make driving safe by itself. You are always responsible for your vehicle and your attention. I say that plainly, in the app and in the terms.

What I believe

Focus is a skill, not a personality trait. Small wins, streaks, and the right defaults beat willpower. And no episode, notification, or feature is ever worth more than a life. If a choice ever comes down to engagement or safety, safety wins.
